The 2016 remains closed and nervy, wrapping brooding fruit and fresh herbs in fine, savoury tannins. Capsicum and tea leaf presently dominate the dry palate. A level up in concentration and structure in the flagship is on display in this vintage that makes Laureat stand amongst more serious Bordeaux blends and deserving of further cellaring.

Appreciating an ultra-elegant, richly layered Chardonnay in the company of wine lovers is what memories are made of, and Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay 2015 certainly fits the bill.
This wine literally bursts with flavour unlocked from slow ripening, well nurtured grapes from hand-selected parcels of vines grown in Stellenbosch.
“I particularly love this Chardonnay because it is a beautiful example of the personality, femininity and precision embodied by Fleur du Cap. I am proud to be part of the crafting process of this exceptionally well-balanced wine,” says winemaker Kristin Basson.
The Chardonnay was matured for nine months in second (60%) and third (40%) fill French oak barrels specifically chosen to underline the elegant, yet bold character of the wine, achieving the perfect marriage between the fruit and wood nuances. After careful consideration, only the best batches were selected for the final blend to create a wine that is smooth, rich and beautifully layered with the ability to mature for another two to three years.

The first settlers at the cape to arrive from Europe came from The Netherlands in 1652 under the auspices of the Dutch east India company. As farmers began moving away from the more settled areas of cape town and Stellenbosch during the 18th and 19th centuries, local courts were established in newer towns to maintain links with the chief governing authorities.
The district of Tulbagh, about 120km from cape town, was established in 1804. The home (drostdy) and seat of local government for Tulbagh was designed in the cape Dutch style by renowned architect, Louis-Michel Thibault and completed in 1806. Regarded as one of his finest works, the magistrate governor’s residence also served as the courthouse (hof) from 1806 to 1822. Today, De Oude Drostdy, as the building is known, houses a small and very popular museum with very fine examples of cape Dutch furniture. It is also the home of Drostdy-hof wines.
This is light, delicately fruity wine, made from Chenin Blanc grapes. Some 25% lower than many conventional white table wines, it is ideal for the health-conscious and those watching their kilojoules intake
